McIlroy in last place at BMW Championship

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Rory McIlroy, the 2012 PGA Tour Player of the Year, won’t even make it to the Tour Championship.

That much was assured after a 78-77 start at Conway Farms that left him last among the 70 players at the BMW Championship.

“It’s unfortunate there’s no cut this week,” he said Friday, mustering a smile.

Entering this week at No. 41 in the FedEx Cup standings, the world No. 4 likely needed a top-7 finish to advance to East Lake for the season finale. Through two rounds at Conway Farms, he has four birdies, 10 bogeys, two doubles and a triple to sit at 13-over 155.

“I’m just not scoring well,” he said. “I just don’t have my scoring hat on.”

And so ends a disappointing 2013 Tour season for McIlroy, who began the year at No. 1 in the world but had only five top 10s, including just one since May.

After this weekend, he’ll take four weeks off before his finishing kick in Europe.

“I’m sort of looking forward to getting to December and drawing a line under the season and starting fresh in 2014,” he said.
